The body of the volume consists of Book Three: The Treason of Isengard, and Book Four: The Ring Goes East. Some editions of the volume contain a Synopsis for readers who have not read the earlier volumes. The Two Towers covers Books Three and Four. However, the novel was originally published as three separate volumes, due to post-World War II paper shortages and size and price considerations. The Lord of the Rings is composed of six "books", aside from an introduction, a prologue and six appendices. The volume was largely welcomed by critics, who found it exciting and compelling, combining epic narrative with heroic romance. The narrative is interlaced, allowing Tolkien to build in suspense and surprise. The volume's title is ambiguous, as five towers are named in the narrative, and Tolkien himself gave conflicting identifications of the two towers. It is preceded by The Fellowship of the Ring and followed by The Return of the King. Tolkien's high fantasy novel The Lord of the Rings. The story is pure magic. The Two Towers is the second volume of J. I cannot sing a lick in tune but hey I would have pushed HARD for a professional singer to take over this task. This ended up being a joke that was taken way way too far. Yes I understand that Ents speak in a slow and deliberate basso voice but my goodness this idea was taken 70,000 Ent strides too far. The twig that broke the camels back was the Treebeard dialogue. Gimli the dwarf is the loudest & most irritating Scotsman I could ever conjure. The gutteral Orc speech is way over the top. I hear Aragorn as a much more forceful character than this Narrator provides. My criticism involves the following: Aragorn 'whispers' or speaks with a downward breathy tone that to me sounds very undecided or morose. I chose this version based on stellar reviews and was looking forward to this performance. I love Tolkien & it is hard for me to admit defeat but this audio book was not my cup of mead.
